Why Are We Getting Involved?

While there are many reasons to help a local shelter, here are a few of the reasons these Girl Scouts have chosen to help GOOD MEWS, a No Kill Shelter in Marietta, Georgia.

One part of what Good Mews does is work to help the cats that come into their care learn to trust humans.  By trusting humans, the cats can become adoptable.  Part of the process of being adopted may include having a fleece cuddle blanket to take with them.  The familiar smell of Good Mews will be on the blanket, and their soft, fuzzy texture is one all pets love.  If you have a cuddle blanket on your lap, it will keep some of the pet fur off of your clothing.  Fleece cuddle blankets are easy and fun to make!  The Girl Scouts of Troop 12387 want to share positive ways others can help cats become adoptable.

Good Mews, like many animal shelters, depends on donations to help them do their work.  Without the generosity of businesses and members of the community, shelters like Good Mews would not be able to help as many pets find their way to loving, caring homes. The Girl Scouts of Troop 12387 want to support the work of this wonderful organization.

In the Atlanta area there is a huge problem of stray pets.  Good Mews not only helps with adoptions, but they provide spay and neuter treatments to cats at their shelter and other shelters, and they are working toward the goal of making spay and neutering available for more and more people.  By spaying and neutering pets, the number of stray pets will become less. The Girl Scouts of Troop 12387 want to help keep animals from becoming stray and homeless.

By donating fleece cuddle blankets, and providing the instructions and pattern for them to the community, these Girl Scouts are hoping to raise awareness about the problem of homeless pets, while supporting the people who are being part of the solution.  Shelters like Good Mews need more support to keep doing the good work they are doing.  Girls everywhere can help the animals where they live find loving homes! The Girl Scouts of Troop 12387 want to get more girls (and other people!) involved to help the problem of pet homelessness.
