What Is Good Mews Foundation?

Good Mews is one of a kind!

Good Mews is one of the few virtually cage-free, no-kill shelters in the state of Georgia.  It was the first of its kind in the Metro Atlanta area, founded in 1988.  Since it has opened, Good Mews has placed over 9,000 cats in permanent homes.  The work of Good Mews is completely supported by help from the public and area businesses - they receive no government support to do the work they do.  Donations of time, service, and money help them care for about 100 residential cats and about 30-40 cats they serve in foster care through their HALO program.  Good Mews cares for cats who have severe or chronic medical needs and helps them find homes.  About 450 cats are adopted from Good Mews every year.

Good Mews Mission Statement:

"Good Mews offers an alternative to traditional animal shelters in the Metro-Atlanta area by providing a no-kill, cage-free, limited admission haven for homeless, abused, or abandoned cats until placing them in permanent, loving homes.  Good Mews promotes public awareness regarding the value of pets, animal welfare, pet overpopulation, and quality human-animal companionship through education and outreach programs."

Special care

Cats who come to Good Mews can expect great nutrition and medical care.  They have access to so much open space - they are only in cages if they need special medical attention, and during the first few weeks when they come for a quarantine period.  They are guaranteed a home for life - if any adoption doesn't work out, they come back to Good Mews!  Best of all, cats who come to Good Mews are protected from unnecessary death because no cat is ever euthanized to make room for another. Euthanasia is only performed when a veterinarian has decided that the cat's quality of life is severely and permanently compromised by sickness or injury.

A better life

Cats arrive at Good Mews from situations where they have been abused, neglected, or are terribly afraid.  Many cats come needing medical care.  From over 300 volunteers, cats receive medical care, cuddling, grooming during which they have time to heal.  Most of all the cats who come to Good Mews learn to trust humans again!
